Training the new guy.

My brother has recently moved close by and he wants to do an Ultramarine army. He has never actually played 40k So I have been trying to get him up to speed. We have so far played 3 games. The first game dragging on for almost a whole day. I started him off with an army of 1000 points and are up to 1550 points and only 3 hours long. Getting better.
I let him use my Black Templars as proxies for his Ultramarines and the Necrons I am using for opponents.

Necrons in 5th ed. are not too good but it's helping me think creatively and helping my brother has given me a chance to see both sides. I don't win these games but that's ok. I tell my brother what I would do to win and given him the chance to do the best he can do. I think once we get his list finalised at 1850 I'll take the kid gloves off and lose for real. I like the monolith. It's fun. In the picture that metal thing is my Monolith proxy.

Necrons need an update. They are still passable but it is like pulling teeth...against a new player.
I like them compared to my Templars. The idea of a shooty army is very fun to me. Destroyers are super-useful.

On the modeling side of the hobby I have been making some new buildings, one of which you can see my Necrons shooting from. I will probably be helping my broth paint and model his Ultramarines soon.

That's all for now.

Battle Summery August 13th, 2011

This is several weeks late but I will post a summery of the last battle between myself and Silchias Ruin. I faced him with my Black Templar army.

After fumbling around trying to remember the rules I made several massive mistakes, the first of which was to use my razorbacks to cover my Land Raider. That was idiocy that cost me a racpr back as Ruin's 4 Prism tanks blew it to smithereens. His fire dragons eventually popped my land raider and my terminators poored forth making short work of them and the Farseer council on jetbikes. I sent them trudging on foot to the prism tanks and pulled my troops to hold my objective. I landed assault marines but they were bogged down by the remaining Farseer. Ruin sent his Howling banshees to tear into my troops but I delayed their advance by popping the transport. I pulled by my defending troops so that my heavy bolter could soften them up for my troops, including my emperors champion to charge. I tried to make the best of a bad situation as I made too many mistakes and was deftly outmaneuvered by the tricky xenos. Luckily or unluckily the game ended on turn 5 with a tie. I kept one objective and Ruin still kept his.
I suppose a tie was the best I could hope for considering my placement mistakes early on.

I have awoken.

Yeah, It has been a long time since I've posted anything. But since I don't really have many followers I suppose it is not as destructive as it might be ;)

I am trying to get back in the habit of playing. School is winding down so I will be able to play a little more. I have had my first game in over a year a few weeks ago. I faced off against Silchias Ruin's Eldar once again. A battle report is forth coming but first I want to show off some items I have been working on.

The first is a scenery piece that I have finally made. I took two ruin corners and added some textured polystyrene and card tiles to make a presentable area terrain ruin.

The second thing was I finally got around to finishing my Emperor's Champion. Check him out:

Trying to get back into the habit...

I am about to post a battle report that I had from last weekend. I had a few problems with my computer and had a 900 word essay to write in one day...so I have been busy. I hope to work on that report this week.

New Workspace

Hello everyone. I have been very busy lately. I have bought a new house which soaked up much of my time, and have gone back to school. To start things off, I wanted to post a pic of my nice new workspace. It's so nice to be able to leave things out while I work on them!!

A birthday present

I decided that for my best friend's birthday this year I would use my 40k hobby skills this time (I also bought her some actual gifts so dont think me cheap ;) ) She had made a little version of me for my birthday, so I made her a little version of her. I grabbed some epoxy putty and mixed some pink paint and viola! What do you think?
I did think about using a sister of battle for a much more feminine shape but...couldnt find one. Hot chicks are still hot in space marine power armor right??
Thats a dog she's hold btw. :)
